Clinical Services

  • For those considering therapy in the near future, the initial consultation is an optional appointment providing individuals with an opportunity to briefly connect with the clinician prior to scheduling an intake appointment. During this time, individuals are invited to share their thoughts and motivation to consider therapy as well as any areas where they may expect to focus. Individuals are encouraged to ask questions designed to get to know their clinician and ensure the therapeutic relationship will align with their personal goals. Together, they will collaboratively explore potential clinical approaches to meet their objectives and in most cases, individuals will leave this appointment with an understanding of a general plan of care.

  • Individual therapy sessions are most commonly weekly or biweekly and are customized to meet the needs of the individual. Using the care plan determined by the clinician and individual, these sessions are highly interactive and are the foundation for individuals to achieve their therapeutic goals.  For some, that may mean discussions focused on reflecting experiences since the previous session, exploring a specific topic or on skill development that supports the individual’s objectives. For others, discussions may have a more existential approach, with the goal of the individual deepening their awareness of themselves and developing better understanding of how they interact with the world and those around them. Each session will conclude with identifying ways individuals can implement their insight into their upcoming week for discussion in the following session.

  • Family or Couples therapy sessions are for those seeking improvement in their relationship with other individuals, whether it be a parent / child dynamic or partners in a relationship. In sessions, the clinician will guide participants in clearly articulating their individual needs within the relationship and assist in the development of concrete, actionable steps for each participant in support of meeting those needs. In many cases, the clinician will serve as a translator between participants, helping clarify meaning and ensure accurate understanding of thoughts and sentiments. Based on the topics discussed during therapy sessions, alternative approaches and strategies may be suggested to practice between appointments. Additionally, the clinician can help participants assess the effectiveness and outcomes of their attempts to address ongoing conflicts and misunderstandings.
