ARC Therapy

I’m excited to announce the grand opening of ARC Therapy in the West End of Richmond. After 20 years in the field of counseling, ARC Therapy is a new chapter in what I have found to be the most fulfilling profession imaginable I could have imagined.

I have extensive experience with teenagers and young adults, as well as an increased number of adults and couples. Although I am well-equipped to address a broad range of clinical concerns, in recent years I have found particular success working with clients experiencing varying levels of anxiety, as well as those navigating challenges related to how neurodivergent traits influence their symptoms. I also thrive in working with adolescents transitioning to college and supporting young adults finding confidence in building autonomy. Therapy has been a transformative process for many of my clients and I look forward to providing client services in this new practice.

Additionally, I will continue to provide supervision to Residents In Counseling working towards their LPC and to clinicians pursuing their certification to become a Sex Offender Treatment Provider. It is a privilege of mine to help clinicians find their clinical voice and develop a strong foundation to prepare them for a future in the field of counseling.

Although I have always actively monitored conversations on this page, I look forward to increasing my participation going forward. If you are interested in meeting up virtually, in person or by phone to consult on cases or simply network, please message me here or email david@arctherapyservices.com. I welcome opportunities to make new connections soon!

About David

During the course of his 20 years of experience, David has incorporated person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused interventions and motivational interviewing to help clients achieve their clinical goals. He brings enthusiasm and curiosity to sessions that allow for clinical discussions to be energizing. David enjoys connecting with clients by learning about their interests and activities, while weaving clinical concepts into sessions. When appropriate and supported by adolescent clients, parents are invited into treatment by way of family or parent only sessions. When clients indicate an interest, David will also engage in more complex, philosophical discussions about mindfulness and enlightenment. David enjoys recommending content for clients to consume outside of sessions and when clients share something they encountered and found meaningful.

David attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2002. David then completed a Master of Arts degree in Counselor Education in 2005 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Over the next five years, he worked at Carolinas Medical Center - Behavioral Health in Charlotte and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of North Carolina. During that time, David worked in a variety of programs providing inpatient and outpatient services to children and adolescents.

In 2010, David moved to Richmond, VA where he began working as a clinical manager in several adolescent community homes, became a clinical supervisor and ultimately, the Director of Community Homes. In 2017, David made the transition to  outpatient therapy at a private practice where he remained for more than 8 years, frequently working with teens and young adults experiencing varying degrees of anxiety, trauma, parent/child conflict, substance abuse issues and neurodiversity. In January 2026, David opened ARC Therapy looking forward to a future of working directly with clients, supervising Residents in Counseling working towards their LPC and/or SOTP certification, and developing the practice.

When David is not providing outpatient services, he enjoys exercising, playing golf, traveling and spending time with his wife and two sons.
